Course
Scope:
The scope of this course, as more fully described in the
student registration guide, introduces students to the early
civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Middle East and
their contributions to the development of mankind.
Chronologically, it proceeds to the classical civilizations
with focus on Greece and Rome. This course does not study the
early civilizations of China, India or the Americas.

Course
Expectations: Guidelines and Policies:
1] If you are printing an assignment from home and
your printer does not work, then email the assignment at the
school address, which is canf_dc@access-k12.org. Also, saving
to a flash-drive/memorty stick allows you to carry your work to
school for printing.
2] It is highly recommended that you obtain a
memory-stick [ or flash drive ] to save, carry files
and projects from home to school.
3] Whenever you do a project, especially in Microsoft
Powerpoint or Word, please "SAVE AS", the file in a Word 2000,
or Powerpoint 2000 format so that it can work on school
computers.
4] Late projects and papers: Late papers are
penalized as follows: 1 day late= 50% reduced grade, thereafter
no credit.
5] Class STARTS when the bell rings: please be prompt
and ready: bring materials, pens, pencils, etc.
6] TURN OFF cells and others PDAs during class. If it
rings I will confiscate it and turn it into the office.

7] Makeups are in the Social Studies Office, and are
given daily from 7:40 am. You have a responsibility to not only
inform me of your makeup work, but to complete it as per school
policy on makeups. Test should be made up within ONE WEEK
unless there are extenuating circumstances.
8] HALL PASS: if you do not have your own
student handbook then -- no permission-- will be given
to leave class for restroom,s or your locker....BRING IT TO
CLASS!
9] The class Grading
Scale will follow Social Studies Departmental Guidelines :
93-100=A ... 83-92=B... 73-82=C... 60-72=D.
10] Note to the student: The major source of course
information is on this web site or the links provided herein.
Lectures/discussions in class material can be found below and
printed; use the online lecture notes to supplement your own
notes, reading, or help you if you miss a class. Keep in mind
that these online lecture notes do NOT contain everything
mentioned in class. It is your obligation to get notes,
readings etc, from the teacher upon your return to school
[as per the student handbook ]. Topics that are new to
you or need review require that you do additional reading in
the textbooks provided.
